Qi, pronounced as Chee, is the latest technology in gadget charging, where you don’t need to use any cables and connect the device. The charging happens without using the wires, and this just needs a charging station base where you keep your phone and it starts charging.
The Qi technology is used by Energizer where it provides a special sleeve for the iPhone and a door for the Blackberry Curve 8900, so that these phones too can be charged using the Qi inductive charging technology.

The two components involved in the Qi inductive charging are –

  • Inductive charging station
  • Qi-enabled iPhone sleeve

The inductive charging station has two locations where the Qi technology is exactly available, and when you place the Qi enabled device on or near to that location, the charging begins by itself. This makes the usage of electromagnetic fields to send the power to the phone. The inductive charging is possible with the devices which requires less than 5W of current.
The iPhone sleeve is designed by Energizer to fit onto the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, and this sleeve has the port that fits into the charging socket of the iPhone. The sleeve is thick and strong, removing the need of using a separate sleeve or panel for the iPhone. Once the device is placed on the charging station, the blue light on the charging station turns on, indicating the passage of current to the device.

The charging station is of Width: 7.270″, thickness: 0.93″ at top, 0.39″ at bottom, length: 7.918″ and weight of the Pad is 0.80 lbs.
The iPhone sleeve is of Width: 2.664″, thickness: 0.697″, length: 5.060″ and Weighs 0.10 lbs.

There is nothing such as magnets placed in the station or the sleeve, so no matter whatever time you keep the phone on the station, it won’t cause any internal damage to the iPhone.
There is a back panel door for the Blackberry 8900 available too, but the phone isn’t available with me so I could capture the pics with the iPhone, and the pics would explain it more easily.
