Having an Internet connection on an Android smartphone would require the Internet settings to be correctly setup in the phone, through the network settings, where a small mistake could stop the Internet from getting connected. Here is how you can setup the Mobile Network internet on your Android phone, with most of them having the same options:

Go to the Settings, where the first section would be “Wireless & Network”. Here, click on More and you would see all the options in the wireless and network settings. Click on “Mobile Networks” to open the settings for the mobile network and the SIM card.

Under the mobile network settings, you would see options for enabling the data network connectivity, and the option for toggling the data network when on roaming. For someone to set up the Internet on the device, you need to go to the Access Point Names section which would have the information about the particular network, or you may have to set it up by yourself with the right access name for your network.

In the access point names section you would be seeing the already present access points on your phone, and clicking on the options icon on the top right section, or just clicking on the Menu key on your phone if its present, would open the dropdown menu. Select “New APN” and it would open a panel to enter all the details about the new Access Point Name that you are going to set.

The internet setting up has to be usually accompanied by a restart of the phone for the settings to be well set up and the network to be refreshed.
