The $35 Android tablet that was rumored to be, and was probably a chinese device being sold by the Indian govt., is finally coming out with the partnership between the government and HCL Technologies limited.
The device is named HCL Sakshat, and would be coming for online booking very soon in the company website, and it is based on the Android operating system, probably having a resistive touch interface. The Sakshat tablet is being made in a total number of 100,000 units.
According to the latest news, the device is going to have a 9-inch screen, and will have a camera too. The device would be supported with 2GB of RAM for a faster speed. The Sakshat tablet would be supporting Video playback, Media Player, Internet Browsing, PDF Reader, Office files and web conferencing. A few other rumors say that the device would be coming in different versions too, having 5-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch screens.
As the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had earlier said, this device would be available only to the college and engineering students, and not to the general public, and so is the limited number of devices being manufactured.
The design of the HCL Sakshat tablet was almost similar to that of the Hivision SpeedPad or PWS700HA, by one of the chinese manufacturers, and it was sold for $100 there. May that be the same or not, the price of $35 is interesting.
The price value in India is Rs. 1500, and we would update the news as soon as we see something in the online stores of HCL India.
