The Adobe Flash player 10.2 beta for all browsers had come in with quite few additions that boost the performance of the system, and thus updating is a wise option. But unlike the other browsers, Google chrome doesn’t automatically set itself to use the latest installed flash player but still would use the default built-in flash player that is embedded in it.

flash player 10.2 install

There is a way to disable to built-in flash player in Google chrome and install the flash player 10.2 beta in it, but here is another alternative way –

  • Download the flash player 10.2 beta for the desired browsers and OS – Windows All Browsers, and Mac. After downloading, install the flash player.
  • Next, go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash and locate the file NPSWF32.dll in it, and copy the file.
  • Go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\CurrentBuildNumber and find the file GCSWF32.dll. Rename the file GCSWF32.dll to GCSWF31.dll to keep it safe if at all you need to use it again.
  • Next, Paste the NPSWF32.dll file here and rename it to GCSWF32.dll

The GCSWF32.dll is the actual flash identification and replacement file, which once replaced would change the version of flash player in the browser. Doing the above steps would replace the built-in flash player with the Flash player 10.2 beta. Go to the browser address bar and type about:plugins and hit enter. Check for the details of the flash plugin and you can find out which version of the flash player is currently running.
