Although it is hard to believe that some companies will not allow any form of gadget or figurine to sit atop a desk, it is also safe to say that in many cases these gadgets can be a distraction to employees. Either way, it can be an advantage sometimes or loss too for the company.
Let’s look at both sides of the argument to see if there can be a clear answer as to what should be done within the office environment. Being said that they have their own advantages, having a world that adjusts both the sides, would neither destroy the business, and not make the companies look the odd-out-one in the entire industry.
Why Businesses Dislike Technology
Although technology powers most offices it is the newer technology that businesses are worried about as they are unsure on what kind of affect it has on employees. For example, although the iPad and iPad 2 has revolutionised the way that many companies are now working, it also costs a small fortune to provide a company with the devices and because there is so much to do on the device, it is tough to ensure that everyone is always doing something productive. The devices such as the Galaxy Tab, the iPad and other high-end smartphones and tablet devices are always the way for the best future of technology, but at the same time, not all the hours spent using them are helpful for the large businesses and their employees.
There are also many devices that people can get to sit on their desks than can cause distractions when it comes to the office. These include things such as clocks, figures and even missile launchers, a lot of businesses don’t want their employees to have any distractions during working hours!
Why Technology Can Assist a Business
Look at the opposite side of the argument and you can immediately see the advantages of everyone within a company using iPads. Provide the majority of people who head off to regular client meetings with these (don’t forget the awesome keyboards you can get) and your company immediately looks a lot more professional. At the same time, make sure you don’t come across as arrogant as many companies carrying iPads do seem to make this mistake. The companies and employee part of theirs, carry a higher attitude than the other company which they visit, if at all the latter has a lesser edge with the present technology.
Banning figures, small moving robots and missile launchers on desks can also be a bad move. If you are in an industry that needs to be creative then having everyone working on just a plain white desk perhaps isn’t the best of moves. Having things placed in various meeting rooms within an office is also a great way to get the creative juices flowing. They can come in handy within the office space to rent!
The Outcome
In all honesty, it depends on the kind of company you are operating. If you are based in a heavily financial sector then having everyone working on the various tablet devices and waltzing around with gadgets perhaps isn’t the best of ideas, everything must be kept secure, especially if you are in the offices that are based on the virtual world, especially the virtual offices uk. On the other hand, working in a PR agency or a general office means you have the luxury of getting a bit creative and having your own edge on the technology and getting more into the virtual world, which is the gen next!
