Right now we do not know much about what Microsoft is up to with Windows 8. There has been a lot of proof that Microsoft is preparing for the launch of its next OS version ever since the resale of Windows 7. It already seems that tradition desktop OS are being de-emphasized by ‘the cloud’ and tablets, therefore Microsoft will not be settling down merely with Windows 7. Windows Vista was one of the worst OS launches by Microsoft for many users, and so Windows 7 was called an excellent update. Would Microsoft be good enough with their next launch Windows 8?
Here we have listed 8 features which might as well be a part of the upcoming Windows version.
The UI: Lock Screen Looks like Windows 7
It seems that the welcome/lock screen for Windows 8 will have the same look as the display from Windows 7 with an interface which is similar to the smartphone OS. It is being rumored that the display screen for the upcoming Windows will include time, date, day of the week and power management icons for portable machines.
The UI: The (Dreaded) Office Ribbon Return
There happen to be mixed opinions about the Ribbon interface but apparently this feature might be a part of the Explorer windows in Windows 8. It seems that the drop down menus and toolbar in the Explorer windows of the upcoming OS will be replaced by it. If there is even going to be a Windows 8 touchscreen tablet then this might be a useful feature.
The Cloud: Sync
When it became obvious that an Explorer Ribbon was a part of the upcoming Windows it was also discovered that Sync and Web Sharing placeholder buttons were also included. This is proof enough that a lot of services by Microsoft might not be pushed into the cloud.
The Cloud: Web Sharing
Web sharing was the second button that was discovered which speculates a cloud storage device like Windows Live SkyDrive would be compatible with it along with 25GB for a free sharing feature.
Xbox Integration: Kinect
It has been recently discovered that Kinect hackers are now working alongside Microsoft to make Xbox Integration with the upcoming Windows possible. If they are indeed working together then there could be endless possibilities for Windows 8.
Xbox Integration: A New Windows Gaming Experience
As mentioned with the upcoming Windows version Microsoft seems to have the intention of margining devices and this includes the melding of Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. This means that the interface of Windows 8 could be supporting a lot of gaming features.
The Guts: 128-Bits of Power
The performance of Windows 8 will definitely quite a few steps ahead as reveled by the Microsoft employee, Robert Morgan that the upcoming OS would be having a 128 bits architecture. This certainly seems to be a giant leap since Windows 7 merely had 32 bits or 64 bits options.
The Guts: The Tablet Hardware
Last but not least it seems that the x86 platform that was a part of Windows 7 has been ditched by Microsoft for the upcoming Windows version. To be able to support tablet hardware it has been reveled that the OS would be operating on ARM microchip architecture.
Task Manager
The new task manager is totally different and displays the apps and programs which are critical for the system and its performance. The design and feel of the task manager windows has changed totally. The same windows even includes an advanced task manager for those who want to view the extensive stats and info about the hardware.
Booting up becomes hybrid
The booting up would have a mixture of the booting after sleep mode and hibernate mode. Here the core operating system files are put to sleep and the other programs run actively, and thus the time taken to boot up the OS is reduced by a good fold.
Reset to defaults
This is an option shown in the early builds of Windows 8 where the administration can change the settings to default in no time. This would be a simple process and the resetting would be advantageous here as most of the applications are going to be cloud based as seen in the various builds of Windows 8.
Push Notifications
Nothing much is showed about it, but it is said that the Windows 8 would be having the push notifications for various apps enabled just like what the Windows Phone 7 experience in their mobile devices.
Internet Explorer 10
There is a new browser version coming yet again, and this time with the new version of the Windows operating system. It would be the IE 10 browser that would be coming pre installed in the Windows 8 OS.
There are many more things to discuss about the Windows 8 operating system which would be coming soon into the market, after a few initial releases. But users claim it is going to be a Windows 7 killer and a big hit against the Mac and Linux operating systems.
