The CM 10.2 Nightly ROM has been released a few weeks ago by CyanogenMod team. CyanogenMod is a good way to get the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on slow or unsupported devices but still enjoy it running pretty fast and responsive. Please follow the below guidelines and you’ll be able to successfully install this custom ROM on your Samsung Galaxy S2.

Prerequisites

  1. This guide works exclusively with Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. Other versions are not supported in this tutorial so please do it on your own risk.
  2. Your phone has to be rooted before proceeding, so please follow our guide on how to root Android 4.2.2 on Samsung Galaxy devices.
  3. Enable USB debugging on your Galaxy S2 by going to Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.
  4. Make sure your battery is at least 60% charged.
  5. Install USB drivers for your Galaxy device from Samsung official page.
  6. Backup all your data from the device because if you haven’t already. The installation is most likely to wipe all the information on your Galaxy.

 

Flashing ClockWorkMode Recovery

  1. Download and extract CWM Recovery to a convenient folder.
  2. Download Odin v3.07.
  3. Now you need to put your device in Download Mode as you did while rooting it. Please turn it completely off and then hold simultaneously Volume Down, Home and Power until the Warning screen appears. Hit Volume Up to continue.
  4. Run Odin .exe file as Administrator and connect your Galaxy Note 2 to the computer via USB. ID:COM box in Odin should now turn yellow (or blue), which means you’re ready to go. 
  5. Then click on PDA and select the CWM Recovery .tar.md5 file you downloaded earlier.
  6. Make sure the only boxes checked are Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time.
  7. Press Start and wait till the installation process finishes.

 

Flashing CM 10.2 Nightly

  1. Please visit the following link and download the latest CM 10.2 Nightly version available: Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 CM 10.2 Nightly. Do NOT unzip the archive.
  2. Download additional Gapps for Android 4.3 custom ROMs. Do NOT unzip the archive.
  3. Connect your Galaxy S2 with your computer and copy the zip files from Step 1&2 onto your SD card.
  4. Disconnect and power off your device after it’s finished copying files.
  5. Boot into Custom Recovery Mode by holding both Volume Down and Power buttons and then releasing the last one when the logo appears.
  6. When into CWM Recovery screen, perform a NANDROID Backup in case you want to restore the old ROM sometime. Select backup and restore and then use the Backup option to do that. 
  7. Next, you’re going to factory reset your device by selecting wipe data/ factory reset. This is an important step so please don’t pass by. Screen Shot 2013-09-16 at 19.38.07
  8. Now you can proceed with installing CyanogenMod 10.2. Go ahead and select install zip from sdcard and then choose zip from sdcard. Navigate to the location of the zip files you copied previously and confirm the install. Important! Don’t press any buttons during the setup.
  9. Do the above step again only choosing the Gapps zip this time. This will install all Google-based apps that your phone requires in order to run correctly.
  10. When the installation is complete, go back to the main screen and reboot the smartphone.
