Fake profiles are pretty common in the big social network Facebook where abusing one’s personal profiles and creating something similar without the knowledge of the original person, creates a lot of problems. But Facebook has an option on how you can try to remove such fake profiles from its site, only if you get a support from few people in reporting the same to Facebook.
Here is how you can report a Fake profile on Facebook –
Go to the Facebook Profile page, which you feel is a fake one or resembles the one you or your friends own. In the left sidebar, below the Friends list, you would see 3 options which are common for any profile on Facebook –
- Suggest Friends
- Unfriend
- Report/Block This Person
If you are a friend of that person, you would see those 3 options, and if you have not confirmed friendship with that profile, you would see only one option – “Report/Block This Person”
Click on “Report/Block This Person” and you would see a list of options in a dialog box, where you need to specify why you feel the profile should be reported to the Facebook staff. Here is a list of options –
- This is my profile, but I no longer have access to it
- This person is annoying me
- This profile is pretending to be someone or is fake
- Inappropriate profile photo
- Inappropriate profile information
- This person is bullying or harassing me
So going with the above options, you can even try to remove the profile which you owned previously and was hacked by someone else. But as we are talking about a Fake Profile, it is the 3rd option you need to select.
In the Option of pretending to be someone or a fake profile, you would see another list of options to specify why the profile seems to be a Fake one. The various options you would see are –
- Pretending to be me
- Pretending to be someone I know
- Pretending to be a celebrity
- Represents a business or an organization
- Does not represent a real person
If you feel it is a fake profile of your friend, you would need to specify which profile is being impersonated so that Facebook works on that in a faster way. A pretty easy work and which works very well, and a good number of reports for a profile within a few days does alarm Facebook to take action on that profile.
